Charlie's Library Show -
Summer Reading Challenge

Charlie and his rabbitThe Summer Reading Challenge is run each year by the Reading Agency, in partnership with leading children's publishers, and more than 85% of the UK's library authorities take part during the summer holidays.

The Challenge is designed to encourage children to make the most of the long summer break by paying a visit to their local library. they have to read a number of books over the holidays and are provided with packs of materials that are fun to use with sitckers and prizes to collect. Children who successfully complete the Challenge are rewarded with badges and certificates, often given at special award ceremonies at the end of the summer and Charlie has hosted such events.

Over the past four years Charlie has performed a different show each year:

  • The Rollercoaster Reading Magic show
  • The Reading Voyage Magic Show
  • The Top-Secret Reading Mission Magic Show
  • The Big Wild Read Magic Show

The Reading Challenge for 2008 is called 'Team Read' and Charlie is working on a brand new show, linked to the chosen theme, to promote reading in your library or school during the summer months.
